What company underwrites the coverage offered by the Association?

The Association provides benefits under its major medical expense policy.

What is the Administering Insurer?

The Administering Insurer processes the claims and other paperwork of the Association. The Administering Insurer is Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Mississippi, A Mutual Insurance Company.

If I move to Mississippi from another state, can I purchase a policy from the Association immediately?

Generally, no. There are two exceptions. The six month residency requirement may be waived if you qualify for immediate coverage (see page 5 of Application for Coverage) or if you are covered by another state's high risk health pool when you move to Mississippi.

If I choose a high deductible policy, can I change to a lower deductible policy in the future?

NO. However, you may change from a lower deductible to a higher deductible policy at any time.

Can I pay my premium by being billed directly each month?

NO. Premium payment methods offered by the Association are monthly bank draft, annual bank draft or direct annual billing.

Will I be responsible for filing my claims?

If you are treated by a Blue Cross and Blue Shield Key Physician or in a Network Hospital, or if you receive prescriptions through their Community Plus Pharmacy Network, your claims will be filed for you. In other instances, you may be responsible for filing your claims.
